I told Mark the other day I need a big Black & White photo of Becks for the front room. I could go through my photos because I’m sure I have something. Anything. I know I do. But I’m pretty happy being lazy for as long as possible. It’s easier to create something new than dig around my files.
Today Spring felt like it was trying real hard to be a permanent fixture. Coop had a friend over and to enjoy the day, I needed to clean a winter’s worth of dog poo (aka a shit ton). I made it 15 minutes and took a break. I pushed the boys into the garage and said, “Look tough.”
Why the garage?
Kate T. Parker swears by her garage and produces breathtaking photos in the space. And she’s doing garage sessions because she rocks the space so well. She even explained it in her Clickin Moms break-out session. I thought “One day I’ll try that and prove her wrong.” There’s no way a garage is an awesome spot. I bet her garage is spotless and has that cool speckled floor paint. Mine is full of future garage sale crap and junk we can’t fit in the trash. I figured she was foolish and doesn’t know that it’s all her talent and vision. She can share all day long, but it’s her talent and you can’t teach that. Silly lady… So I was going to humor her and push my kids into the garage.
Guess who’s wrong?
First and foremost, it was her awesome talent and vision that pushed her into the garage. And it’s that talent that continues to produce beautiful picture in an odd place.
Today, I copied her. And got Becks’ big Black & White photo for the living room. Notice I said copied. Yep. Not inspired. That’d be the egotistical way for me to say it. But I straight out copied. And I’m giving her the credit. In this industry, people don’t share because they’re afraid of being copied. Yes, I copied Kate. But I still brought my eye to the ball game and snapped at the moment I knew made most sense. Sharing allows other people to push their own talent to create their very own Next Thing. I won’t ever be Kate T. Parker. But because she shared, I got to be a little better Erika Ray.
Thanks, Kate for sharing so I could copy you.
