30 Days of Happy: Day 1

Right now, life is swirling.  And not in the giddy twirling "Sound of Music" sort of way.  We have a lot of big events this summer, but they're far enough a way to cause panic.  Each event should happen within weeks of each other which translates to: not enough time to properly prepare.  My job feels uncertain again and will continue to feel that way until I get the phone call.  If it's in three months or three years, I worry each time I see my supervisor name's pop up on my phone.  I'm still potty-training a very stubborn three year-old.  I've also discovered that it's possible both boys' inherited my smart mouth and stubbornness.  All of this creates a possible tornado of depression that I'd really like to avoid.  Summer is supposed to be filled with happiness.  Ice cream cones for no reason.  Firefly chasing the second the sun dips.  Smores smeared on tiny cheeks.  Yesterday, I stumbled onto this post and decided to say "Why not?"  I have a feeling that if I don't join, I'll keep my neck craned looking for the next shoe to drop.  I'd rather focus on summer instead of that shoe or the next bird which will surely shit in my eye.

I probably won't be posting everyday or photographing every ounce of Happiness, but I will try to give a quick rundown.  Want to join in?  Summer is half over, let's play it out with some fun!

Day 1: Water fountains at Scioto Mile.

We had no plans on Sunday and I did not want to sit around the house.  The news about Scioto Mile was buzzing all over my friends' Facebook pages.  It was sunny.  We had free time.  Why not?  Becket told us he was not going into the water.  "I'm just going to sit in the stroller and watch" he said full of stubborn tone.  The sight of it changed his mind, but he was still apprehensive.  One run through the fountains and he was a converted little boy.  He'd run and run some more.  And he'd end up at my leg giving me a soaking wet hug.

There was no talking Cooper into having fun.  He was ready the second he spotted the fountains.

Even though these pictures only show the boys having fun, trust me, we all had a great time on Sunday.  Watching them giggle, mingle around the other kids, or "hide" behind the sprays it was nearly impossible to wipe a smile off your face.  And we ran through a few of the fountains ourselves.  Camera be damned.  I think waterlogged because of Fun is a good reason for an upgrade.  And I failed to mention, it's 100% free!  Free fun is the best kind, huh?  I know that we'll be seeing a lot more of this place.  And if you're ever in Columbus, make a trip downtown.  You'll have fun.  Promise.

Day 2 later tonight.
